Requiem

Every song, movie, television show, familiar road and familiar place is tainted by memory. I can't shake it and I'm sure you know what I mean. When you know, fear and love a particular object for so long, familiarity is second nature. It always will be. I can't run away from my past because I'll never find faith in someone like I did with you. A last chance and saving grace that I failed. So I did the crime and now I'm doing the time. I destroyed it and now I wish I could rewrite it and rebuild it. A lifetime of regret until I see the sun rise again. You gave up and I'll continue to hold my tongue. I remember when I used to bury my face in the pillow and hold my breath. I swore I wanted to die. I can't stop holding my breath. I failed you.
